Almost all our trees live outdoors. Harare's seasons set the rhythm: hot and dry before the rains, fast growth in summer, and cold nights with frost in June and July.
Trees wake up. Repot most species now, start feeding, and check water every day. On very hot days water morning and evening.
Fast growth. Trim new shoots to keep the shape. Make sure pots drain well, and feed every two to three weeks.
Growth slows. Ease off feeding and do any wiring or structural pruning while the tree is still active.
Water less. Move figs, jades and bougainvillea under cover on frosty nights. Pines, olives and junipers can stay out.
Photos only go so far. Come and see the trees in person, and bring the serial numbers of the ones you like.
